Team

We are 28 students from the School of Industrial and Aerospace Engineering of Toledo, split across four departments.

Who we are

DIANA is a student association at the University of Castilla-La Mancha that builds its own fixed-wing drones, from design to flight, to compete at national and international level. It was founded in 2022 by Pablo Zamorano, an aerospace engineering student in Toledo. It is registered in the General Register of Associations of Castilla-La Mancha and with the university itself.

The name stands for Development and Investigation in Aerospace and Navigation Areas, but above all it pays tribute to Diana Trujillo, the NASA aerospace engineer who worked on the Mars Science Laboratory and Perseverance missions.

We work in the Sabatini guardhouses, next to the main gate of the Fábrica de Armas campus in Toledo. Whoever joins sees what is taught in class at work: in electronics, aerodynamics or flight mechanics, there is a long way between paper and an aircraft that flies, made with your own hands.

Where we are heading

Having reached the goal of competing in the Air Cargo Challenge, the team is considering its own R&D department and new lines in rocketry and FPV drones.

Four departments

  1. 01

    Aerodinámica

    4 people

    6 people

    2 people

    3 people

The pilot

The pilot is not a department but a role that cuts across several. The lead pilot belongs to Aerodynamics, and the reserve pilot, when there is one, to Electronics. There is currently no reserve: the aim is to have no more than two.

Anyone who wants to fly has an interview with the lead pilot. Training starts with the basics and continues on a computer simulator. Once the level is there, real flying begins: first with a trainer glider and then with the aircraft of the team.
